Hip-Hop legend Ice Cube is expanding his entertainment portfolio to television, signing on as head writer of a still unnamed buddy cop series for NBC.

The show is being produced by Cube's Cube Vision company, and NBC chairman Ben Silverman expects the West Coast veteran to bring the same success he's had in music and film to the network. Click Here For More...

"As we continue to expand our roster of diverse talent both on-camera and behind the camera, a guy like Ice Cube, who's multi-talented, is someone we really wanted to be in business with," Silverman explained. "He's had an amazing career, to have gone from NWA to this."

Although Cube originally had no plans to appear in the series, NBC executives are pushing for him to bring his star power to the series in the form of guest appearances.

Also, the execs are hopeful the star's extensive back catalog of classic, seminal Hip-Hop music can be utilized for the show's opening credits, or possibly have Cube create a new song entirely.

"We really want to capture his voice and his eye for talent, and his producing acumen," Silverman continued. "If he appeared in the pilot or series, we'd be really excited about that."

Cube's latest project marks a return to television, as the Compton native also executive produced the Showtime adaption of his hit film Barbershop, and FX's Black. White.

Ice Cube returned to music this year with his well-received eighth studio album Raw Footage.

Powered by the singles "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It," "Do Ya Thang," and "Why Me," the West Coast veteran is on pace to have his second consecutive best-selling independent Hip-Hop album of the year.

Earlier this month, Cube also excited the Hip-Hop world by agreeing to Scarface's idea for a supergroup album including them and acclaimed Queens lyricist Nas.

At press time, NBC has confirmed Cube's new series will be an hour long, but have not verified a series premier date.

T.I. Can Vote As A Felon

Thursday, October 30, 2008 | | 0 comments »

McDONOUGH, Ga. (AP) - T.I. originally thought his voting privileges were revoked as a convicted felon, until he researched and learned that under a Georgia law felons are eligible if they're not currently serving probation or a prison sentence. Click Here For More...

"It's a relief," said the best-selling rapper, who stood in line for no more than 10 minutes on Wednesday before entering a polling center in suburban Atlanta to vote for the first time in his life.

"This what it is all about, not staying up late and waking up early to vote," he added. "Now rather than just talking about it, I'm being about it. I'm leading by example, and it makes me feel a lot better."

T.I., who already has two No. 1 hits off his new album "Paper Trail" ("Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life" with Rihanna), does have several federal firearms offenses and ongoing community service endeavors, stemming from his arrest last October for trying to buy automatic weapons. But his lawyer, Steve Sadow, confirmed that he can still cast a ballot because his sentence doesn't start until late March next year.

"Until he is sentenced in the federal case, he doesn't have a conviction yet," said Sadow of his 28-year-old client, whose real name is Clifford Harris. "Even though he is a convicted felon, he has a right to vote since he is not serving probation and hasn't started his prison sentence."

A spokesman for the Georgia Secretary of State's office confirmed that T.I. was eligible to vote.

With an "I'm a Georgia Voter" sticker planted on his black vest, T.I. signed autographs and took photos with several fans who were stunned to see the Grammy-winning artist in line to vote.

"It's inspirational what he is doing," said Nathirya Brown, 19, a first-time voter who was one of the first to spot T.I. stepping off his "Respect My Vote" campaign bus. He and the nonpartisan group Hip-Hop Caucus launched a nationwide tour in late July to encourage voters between the ages of 18 and 29 to take a more active role in politics.

"Just him being diligent enough helps others find out their status as well," Brown added.

T.I. Talks About New Film

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 | | 0 comments »

In the movie “Bone Deep,” T.I. has the role of a bank robber — a “well-dressed” bank robber at that — who was loyal to his crew and wants some reciprocation. “I play Ghost,” Tip explained recently. Click Here For More...

“Ghost is a guy who was once the head of this crew — me and Idris [Elba] started the crew. I took a hit on the last job. I got shot and went to prison — I did about five years. I did the time, didn’t mention anyone’s name, didn’t snitch. Didn’t cooperate or nothing. Now I’m back out. The crew has gone on to do other jobs. Their position is, ‘We’ve held your money for you. It’s been collecting interest.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, OK, but I got a job I wanna do.’ They’re like, ‘Usually, we wait a year or two before we do a job.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’ve got a job I wanna do on Tuesday. And y’all owe me.’ That’s what the film is about — whether or not they do that job, whether or not they trust me, whether or not we will pull the job off and what will happen after and all that kind of stuff. You have to see.” Much like his album Paper Trail pushed Tip’s artistic boundaries, the MC says he wanted to apply the same work ethics and principles to his ongoing acting career. “I was taught that most of the successful actors from Will [Smith] to Denzel [Washington] — even Idris will tell you — take on the roles that scare the sh– out of you. Joe Pesci also told me that. I’ve heard that in so many different places. They may have different ways of saying it. You always challenge yourself. You do the sh– you’re terrified of doing or what you don’t think you can do.”The thing is, with acting, you can’t necessarily get comfortable, because you never do two films that are exactly alike,” he added. “Every character provides a different set of challenges. By the end of this film, I would have mastered this character, but then I move on to the next film, to another character.” “Bone Deep” hits theaters next year.

The Boyz n the Hood film maker had signed to direct the picture, which was scheduled for release in June 2009. But Daily Variety reports that Singleton canceled his contract when the film was moved back a year to 2010, so Fox movie bosses could concentrate on an Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel.

Skinheads Planned To Kill Obama

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 | | 0 comments »

Two neo-Nazi skinheads planned to drive as fast as they could at Senator Obama while wearing white tuxedos and top hats, shooting at him from the windows, court documents revealed. Click Here For More...

Daniel Cowart, 20, from Tennessee, and Paul Schlesselman 18, from Arkansas, are charged with making threats against a presidential candidate, illegal possession of a sawn-off shotgun and conspiracy to rob a gun dealer.

The pair, who indicated they were willing to die during the assassination bid, also planned to target an unnamed high school with predominantly African American students.

The plot did not appear to be very advanced or sophisticated, according to the court documents.

"We're unsure of their ability or if they have the wherewithal to carry out any of their threats," said a source close to the investigation.

The suspects met over the internet about a month ago, the court was told by an agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The court documents alleged the two men met about a month ago and found common ground in their shared "white power" and "skinhead" philosophy.

"The individuals began discussing going on a 'killing spree' that included killing 88 people and beheading 14 African Americans", one written statement said.

"They further stated that their final act of violence would be to attempt to kill/assassinate presidential candidate Barack Obama," it continued.

Cowart and Schlesselman remain in custody and are due to return to court on Thursday for a detention hearing, reports the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper.

They wrote racially motivated words and symbols on the exterior of Cowart's vehicle, including a swastika and the numbers 14 and 88 on the hood of the car.

ATF special agent James Cavanaugh said "H" is the eighth letter of the alphabet and 88 stands for "Heil Hitler".
Mr Cavanaugh said authorities were taking the threats very seriously.

"They seemed determined to do it," he said, "Even if they were just to try it, it would be a trail of tears around the South."

The last few months of this year (the 4th quarter) is expected to be huge for the music industry. With releases from Kanye West, 50 Cent, Ludacris and maybe Eminem, there is huge competition. Well, it seems like the competition might be a little less as it looks like Jay-Z’s new album “The Blueprint 3″ wont be hitting stores this year. After releases the single “Jockin Jay-Z (Dope Boys Fresh” more than two months ago, there still isn’t a video for the song, let alone any news on the album itself. The only confirmed information on the album is that Jigga and Kanye have done a bunch of songs together, it was even rumored that Kanye would be producing the entire album. Well even that rumor seems to be false as when asked if he is working on Jigga’s new album, Pharrell Williams told MTV “Of course,” continuing with only “He don’t like for you to say so much.”

His role has instead been given to Don Cheadle who will take over the role.

No further information was provided at press time in regards to the alleged assault.

Investigators were working today to identify the body of a child found in a car on Chicago's West Side, while family members of Oscar-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson assumed the worst--that this was her missing nephew. Click Here For More...

The body was found in the white Chevrolet Suburban that police were looking for in their search for 7-year-old Julian King, three days after the bodies of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother were found shot to death in the mother's house in Englewood.

Hudson family members were expected at the medical examiner's office this afternoon to identify the body.

Police arrived at the Suburban with Illinois license plate X584859 before 8 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Kolin Avenue, after receiving a call of a suspicious vehicle.

It was found by a 75-year-old who lives on the block, John Louden. He said he has lived on the block for 18 years and worried about people selling drugs in the abandoned building behind it. He saw the SUV while walking his dog. After a double-take, he realized the license plate matched the one police were looking for.

"I didn't look in there. I didn't touch it. I knew it was a strange vehicle," Louden said. He said police showed up in about five minutes after his wife called them. They discovered the child inside. The body was removed and the SUV was towed away for evidence processing. "I feel bad about that baby," Louden said.

If the boy is identified as Julian King, it will confirm detectives' worst fears because a law enforcement source said bullet casings were found in the boy's room on Friday. But the source said they had not found other evidence of violence in the room.

As the car was processed by evidence technicians and workers at the Cook County Medical Examiner's office sought to identify the body, Hudson's family members and supporters assumed this was the third member of her family killed since Friday.

"It's shocking. It's unreal. We had been praying that it would not come to this," said Rev. Krista Alston, a cousin of Hudson and a minister at the Pleasant Gift Baptist Church in Chicago. "We know it's a reality now, but it's still shocking."

Police found the bodies of Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, on Friday afternoon after a family member came to their home in the 7000 block of South Yale Avenue and saw signs of violence inside. The murders was missing sparked a manhunt for Balfour and a search for 7-year-old Julian King.

Balfour was brought in for questioning Friday night.

The boy remained missing through a long weekend in which police and volunteers posted fliers around the city with pictures of the boy. On Sunday, his actress aunt--grieving and rushing to Chicago from Florida where she was promoting a film--offering a $100,000 reward to anyone who found the boy.

Chicago police have been interviewing William Balfour, 27, the estranged husband of the boy's mother, Julia Hudson. He was initially described by police as a suspect in the investigation.

Police searched Balfour's girlfriend's house for several hours Friday night after taking him into custody. Her home is located about 2.5 miles from where the SUV was found this morning.

Balfour has denied involvement in the killings or the disappearance of the boy, law-enforcement sources said. But at some point, Balfour stopped talking to authorities, sources told the Tribune.

On Sunday morning, Balfour was transferred to a state facility after officials said he violated conditions of parole for a 1999 conviction for attempted murder. On Sunday, Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman Januari Smith said Balfour violated his parole because he is a suspect in the slayings and the boy's disappearance.

According to law-enforcement sources, Balfour's alibi the day of the killings has been contradicted by his girlfriend. Police searched Balfour's girlfriend's house for several hours Friday night after taking him into custody. Her home is located about 2.5 miles from where the SUV was found this morning.

Balfour and Julia Hudson had been separated for some time, his family members said. A family friend said Balfour recently had threatened to take Julian away.

A family member of the girlfriend's said police have interviewed her. Police also tracked Balfour's whereabouts Friday through his cell phone, sources said.

Jennifer Hudson Update

Saturday, October 25, 2008 | | 0 comments »

Police took William Balfour into custody Friday evening for an alleged role in the double murder of the mother and brother of entertainer Jennifer Hudson.

Balfour, an ex-con on parole after serving time for attempted murder, was taken to a Chicago area precinct close to 10:00 pm Friday, but the search for a missing 7 year old relative continued into the night. Click Here For More...

Additionally, reports say that Balfour has not been cooperating with authorities in their search for the child Julian King.

William Balfour, the prime suspect in the murder, is the husband of Hudson's sister. He is not believed to be the child's father. Balfour has been considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Earlier in the night, police charged that Balfour was driving a white Chevy Suburban SUV with Illinois license plate X584859 or a green Chrysler Concord sedan with a damaged left front headlight and body damage along the left side with temporary tags 332K823.

Chigago authorities say the child is wearing a tan jersey with the number 5 on it and tan slacks. They have also issued an Amber Alert for the 7-year-old King.

The mother and brother of Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson were found shot to death today (October 24) in a Southside Chicago home.

The family’s church reports that the victims were discovered this
afternoon by a cousin at 2:44 PM.

Hudson’s mother Darnell Hudson Donnerson, 57, succumbed to a gunshot to the head while brother Jason fell victim to a chest wound.

Based on early evidence, police have ruled the crime a domestic dispute.

Hudson rose to prominence during the 2004 season of popular television show "American Idol." She later won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the musical vehicle "Dreamgirls."

Her self-titled album Jennifer Hudson was released in early October

She is next set to appear in the crime drama "Winged Creature" with Forest Whitaker, Guy Pearce, Kate Beckinsale, and her Bees co-star Dakota Fanning.

CHICAGO (AP) — At least one of two people found shot dead Friday at a South Side home was believed to be a relative of Jennifer Hudson, and police were seeking a missing child who might also be related to the singer and Oscar-winning actress. Click Here For More...

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of domestic abuse. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately identify the victims.
Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson said a family member entered the home around 3 p.m. Friday, found a woman shot on the living room floor and left to notify authorities. Responding officers found a man shot in the bedroom, Patterson said. There was no sign of forced entry.

Public records show the address listed to a Jennifer Hudson and Darnell Donerson, the name of the singer's mother. Police tape blocked access to the large, white house, where a crowd gathered outside.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for 7-year-old Julian King, and were seeking a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban. The child was the grandson of the female victim, Patterson said, and Bond added the boy could also be a relative of Hudson.
The alert said the child was possibly abducted, and accompanied by a man — considered armed and dangerous — who was a suspect in the double homicide investigation. The two could also be in a teal or green Chrysler Concord with a temporary license plate, a left front headlight hanging out and scratches on the left side of the vehicle, police said.
A publicist for Hudson at her record label said she was not aware of any incident involving Hudson's mother. She did not immediately return subsequent messages. An e-mail sent to Hudson's personal publicist was not immediately returned.
The tragedy comes as Hudson, who grew up in Chicago, continues to reach new heights in her career. Her song "Spotlight" is No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts and her recently released, self-tiled album debut and has been a top seller. She was featured in this year's blockbuster "Sex and the City" and is also starring in hit movie "The Secret Life of Bees."
She won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls." In an interview last year with Vogue, Hudson credited her mother with encouraging her to audition for "American Idol," which launched her career.
The singer, whose father died when she was a teenager, described herself as very close to her family. In a recent AP interview she said her family, which includes older siblings Julia and Jason, helped keep her grounded.

"My faith in God and my family, they're very realistic and very normal, they're not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago that's just another place that's home," she said. "I stand in line with everybody else, or, when I go home to my mom I'm just Jennifer, (so she says), 'You get up and you take care of your own stuff.' And I love that; I don't like when people tell you everything you want to hear, I want to hear the truth, you know what I mean."

What happened to Katt Williams hosting BET Hip-Hop Awards in the ATL and why was T-Pain hosting? Click Here For More...

Rumors sprung up on the net, that the popular comedian was picked up by authorities for an undisclosed reason. Then, there was a story that leaked that claimed that Williams lost a break-dancing contest to the auto-tune singer, and in turn, gave Pain the job. However, New York's Daily News is citing another reason -- his ego.

According to the paper, Katt was involved in an argument with BET executives prior to the show's tapping, and bailed on his commitment, leaving Pain to fill in.

A source told the paper, the comedian has become "difficult" to deal with now that he's gained popularity.

"He was very demanding during rehearsals," the source told the Daily News. "He really berated one female member of the production company. He launched into a verbal assault on her in front of other people. I mean, he read her the riot act.

"Then he left the set and said he wouldn't return unless she apologized. She wouldn't. BET and the production company backed her up. Katt wouldn't come back. Nobody was willing to budge," the unnamed source continued.

With Katt not on board the night before, BET had no choice, and were left scrambling for a replacement. So, T-Pain was called last minute, and agreed.

The aforementioned breaking-dancing story was agreed upon by BET's executive, Stephen Hill, in interest of working with Williams in the future, according to the Daily News' report.

BET had declined to comment at press time.

Thursday, October 23, 2008 | | 0 comments »

Nelly has teamed up with Akon, T-Pain and Pharrell Williams to form a rap super-group. The Hot In Herre hit-maker, who was previously rumored to be working with T.I., revealed his plans to join forces with his fellow rappers on a new record. Click Here For More...

He tells MTV's website, "Me, Akon, T-Pain and Pharrell are talking about doing a project. We got a host of things we're trying to do - possibly put together this new 2009 (Bell Biv DeVoe) type of thing." And Nelly isn't worried about conflicted schedules getting in the way of the collaboration.

He adds, "I don't think you try to put things together with people you don't think you can accomplish (them) with. With 'Kon, with Pain and Pharrell, I know it's more about the music than anything. It's about leaving something. I think we're all OK as far as the money thing goes. I don't think anybody is hurting. You wanna do things you can be remembered by. Make a mark. I think that's something that's foremost on all our minds."

However, Williams is keeping quiet the project: "Those are all my boys. I'm kinda like the only one that adheres to the oath of secrecy. I don't wanna break that," and refuses to reveal what direction the sound will take, adding, "Well, seeing as though I'm supposed to be upholding my end of the bargain of upholding my oath of secrecy, I'm not so sure of how to answer that question."

The current economic climate may be challenging, but we believe it is also an opportunity, and we are really excited to add Enyce to our lineup."

Who will be the next MC to sell a million units in the first week? If not Kanye West or 50 Cent, then certainly Eminem. Well, Young Buck said he doesn’t care if other artists have bigger names — he’s going to sell a million. “The name of my record is The Rehab,” he said with a smile Sunday in Atlanta. “Straight up, that’s where I been at.” Click Here For More...

Buck said that he and Tupac’s protĂ©gĂ©s, the Outlawz, will put out two separate projects around the same time. “You can expect for their album at the top of the year,” he said. “Hopefully it comes January, no later than February. “Regardless of whatever you may hear, whatever dealing with Buck, what you see is what you get,” he continued. “Honestly, to be real, 50 [Cent] made the statement to the world that ‘Buck is no longer a part of G-Unit, but he’s still an artist on the label,’ so whenever I guess he gets over his situation and figures out his album, I guess we’ll come to terms and figure out a release date on my album. Until then, I ain’t stoppin’. That’s why I’m going so hard with the mixtapes. I’m everywhere. Hopefully, we’ll get a release on my album in January or February.” In the Southern MC’s perfect world, he’ll be able to be released from G-Unit Records. He said he already has suitors willing to buy him out of his contract if 50 is willing to sit down and negotiate. “I’m trying to get totally away from the whole G-Unit situation, period,” he said. “If I can directly deal with Interscope, so be it. I only got two albums left anyway. So at this point, all I’m trying to do is fulfill what I got left with homeboy and move on. It’s already understood that the relationship with me and G-Unit will never be the same, so you don’t ever have to look forward to seeing me back with G-Unit. That’s not my thing. I’m staying down with the streets, and the streets are staying down with me.”

While confirming Rihanna and Chris Brown's relationship recently, Ne-Yo says he could have been with Rihanna. Click Here For More...

The chart topping singers have shared the hit single "Hate That I Love You" and label home at Def Jam in recent years but Ne-Yo says there was potential for more -- at least for publicity purposes that is..

"Just months prior to them dating record companies were trying to put me with Rihanna to build up some controversy" says the "Year of the Gentleman" star.

While there is nothing going on between him and Rihanna now Ne-Yo is very sure that the star's relationship with Chris Brown is the real deal.

"I've hung out with them so much that I know that it's the real deal and they're in a relationship" he says via The Sun.

"They tear hair out of each other and argue. I've seen them kiss and make up like other couples do."

In related news, Ne-Yo is looking forward to working with Alicia Keys.

"She can do no wrong in my eyes. I have a little crush on her. I'd love her to star in one of my music videos."

50 Cent is set to deliver his fourth major label album, 'Before I Self Destruct', on December 9, 2008. Click Here For More...

For 'Before I Self Destruct,' 50 Cent returned to working closely with Dr. Dre and Eminem as he did on his first album. But 'Before I Self Destruct' is more than an album. The package also includes a DVD withan original, gritty, feature-length movie he wrote, directed and starred in.

With Dr. Dre and Eminem each producing and guesting on tracks, and ledby the club-friendly first single, "Get Up," produced by Scott Storch, 'Before I Self Destruct' is darker and harder than last year's Curtis.

50 Cent wrote much of the album while he, as Curtis Jackson, was also penning the 90-minute film of the same name that would be his directorial debut.

The film Before I Self Destruct is a coming of age story about an inner city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by Jackson) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother.

"My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today. There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city," states 50 Cent.

"I made the film for both groups."

You will be shocked on who Vibe Magazine says is "The Greatest Rapper Alive." Click Here For More...

Best Rapper Alive Competition Feels Slim Shady
Posted Mon Oct 13, 2008 1:26am PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. (link to original yahoo.com story below)

If you feel like there's a pun in the headline of this blog post, good.

Last week Vibe magazine announced that Eminem had won its Best Rapper Alive competition, a NCAA-style tournament that pitted the "top" 64 MCs against each other. (See the list of the 64 nominees.)

The online contest polled users over a 5-week period. During the first week, the 64 competing rappers were paired off and users were asked to select the best 32 artists. The second week, that group of 32 lyricists was also grouped in twos and the voters picked their favorite 16. Over the subsequent weeks, the list dwindled down to the last b-boys standing, Jay-Z and Eminem. Eminem won by a landslide of 69 percent, compared to Jay-Z's 31 percent.

"

The results have sparked heated discussions.

Before getting into my opinion of the crowned champ, I am way curious as to how a Best Rapper Alive contest can include the likes of Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, Shawty Lo and Flo Rida, but not list lyrical geniuses Rakim, MC Lyte, Chuck D, KRS-One or Slick Rick. I'm 38, so yes, I'm repping a different era. But if I am to take the title Best Rapper Alive literally, I say, these guys are alive and frankly can still put to shame the majority of the 64 artists who have made it on the ballot. Maybe instead they could call this list, Best Rapper To Recently Release An Album.

I'm sure some of my questions will be answered in the November 2008 issue of Vibe, on newsstands October 21. In this issue, the Best Rapper Alive staff will explain the contest in detail. I must add that I respect the publication, still having in my possession its 1994 premiere issue with Treach of Naughty By Nature on the cover and having written freelance articles for the magazine from 2000 to 2006. I just don't get the criteria.

I understand that the results were driven by the voters, but the brackets used for voting are suspicious. Take for example the following pairings that caused upsets during the first round of voting:

Lil' Kim vs. Lauryn Hill
Lupe Fiasco vs. Q-Tip
Mos Def vs. Talib Qweli
Ghostface Killah vs. Raekwon
Method Man vs. Redman
Common vs. Black Thought

Pairings like these assured that six of the aforementioned rappers were not going to make it to round two. Each of those artists should have made it to the second round. And in other instances, favored artists were matched with MCs who had no chance of winning the first round:

Andre 3000 vs. Dizzee Rascal
Eminem vs. Soulja Boy
Lil' Wayne vs. Trina
T.I. vs. Shawty Lo
Ludacris vs. Young Dro

Are you kidding? I think Dizzee Rascal is dope, but could he possibly get more popular votes than ANDRE 3000? Have the majority of the voters even heard of Dizzee? Soulja Boy, Trina, Shawty Lo, and Young Dro against those guys? Is this poll even real?

Out of 32 pairings, the first round only had a handful of legitimate groupings:

Cam'ron vs. Juelz Santana
Fabolous vs. Cassidy
Lil' Boosie vs. Webbie
Lloyd Banks vs. Young Buck
Chamillionaire vs. Paul Wall

I realize the difficulty and pressure that lies in compiling lists. As a journalist, it's something that you don't take lightly because you know you're going to get called out if your list is wack. I'm feeling bamboozled by this one.

I consider Eminem to be one of the greatest MCs to have ever rhymed. He has an undeniable gift of storytelling. He can freestyle. He's passionate, and is one of the few who is blessed with the ability to simultaneously go straight mega pop and still reach the heads. He's top 10 without question.

I'm in one of those moods and can go and on about this as if it was something important. So I'll stop and let some of my favorites conclude my argument. Check out their videos.

R&B veteran and recent Georgia Music Hall of Fame inductee Keith Sweat might be earning some inspiration for another song -- this time about his ex-wife and the hit reality show "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." Click Here For More...

Sweat's ex-wife Lisa Wu Hartwell is reportedly upset with the R&B singer because he would not allow his two teenage sons to appear on the hit show.

"He didn't sign a waiver" says Hartwell, who is a model/actress and the mother of Sweat's boys Jordan and Justin.

"He's like, Lisa, it's nothing personal, I really don't know how they're going to edit and if their going to make you look crazy. I just don't want the kids to be, you know, overexposed or anything."

According to E!, Hartwell doesn't buy Sweat's explanation.

"It could have been a Disney show and I don't think he would have signed it."

As they say the show must go on, Hartwell is still appearing on the new season which features select Atlanta area housewives, however, she appears as having one child -- her one-year-old son E.J. with her husband, NFL player Ed Hartwell.

Rapper Lil Kim has been sued by the owners of upstart record label Brookland Media, which maintains in court papers that it entered into a $2.5 million contract earlier this year with the raunchy rap diva, who failed to deliver all the recordings required under her contract. Click Here For More...

According to The Associated Press, the suit was filed Tuesday in Manhattan’s state Supreme Court. The suit claims that Brookland has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on recordings, equipment and advances on Kim, and that she has refused to record another note unless her contract is renegotiated. Brookland, which was founded by producers Poke and Tone (a.k.a. the Trackmasters, who produced tracks for Jay-Z, Nas, Will Smith and Destiny’s Child), claims that it has spent thousands to rebuild Kim’s career, and that the label was founded for the specific purpose of issuing her next opus.

The rapper’s attorney, Londell McMillan, contends Brookland sued his client “to leverage their own position” in the contract dispute.

Court papers indicate that Kim had recorded just a few tracks for her album early last month, and Brookland would like the court to declare the contract valid, thus preventing Kim from going to another label with the songs. A judge did grant a temporary injunction to that effect, the New York Daily News reports.

The suit further claims Kim has made “outlandish” post-contract demands of the label; one involved securing Wyclef Jean and Akon as producers for Kim’s album. According to the Daily News, Brookland is now withholding $200,000 it pledged to pay Atlantic Records, Kim’s former label, to spring her from her contract obligations.

Rapper Ice Cube has welcomed plans laid out by retiring hip-hop star Scarface to create a new supergroup with himself and Nas. And the former N.W.A. star admits he'd be willing to give the rap supergroup idea a go.

He tells AllHipHop.com, "I wouldn't even think twice about doing that— hell yeah! I think the album would be crazy, lyrics would be sick, and hip-hop would love it. It's just making that business happen, that's the part that gets funky. I ain't never turned down these kind of projects, they just don't happen for whatever reasons. But I'm up for some s--t like this because I know we can make a dope record."

Beyonce - Letter To Her Fans

Friday, October 03, 2008 | | 0 comments »

Beyonce Addresses Her Fans on Her Upcoming Release, Due in Stores November 18th

“I wanted to address my fans about my upcoming album.

I have worked on this album for close to one year. I have taken the time so I can create my sound. Something that says who I am at this stage in my life. I have poured my heart and soul into it. It is my baby. It is the most time I have spent on any project since my first records as a member of Destiny’s Child when I was 15 years old. I have recorded over 70 songs and have created a sound that reveals all of me. I am in a different place right now and I wanted people to see the many sides of me. The music is upbeat for the dance, fun side and it is reflective, passionate and serious for the personal side. I have taken risks here. I am not afraid and my music will explain it all. There is no label or tag on my sound. It’s me and I am so excited to share it with the world on November 18.”

Love,

Beyoncé
